Sri Lanka is known to have one of the world’s earliest healthcare systems. Today healthcare for the people of Sri Lanka is organized through both public and private sectors and includes the services of those practicing within the Western system of healthcare, and those practicing within traditional systems of medicine, especially the Ayurvedic system.

Ayurvedic medicine (“Ayurveda” for short) is one of the world's oldest holistic healing systems. It was developed more than 3,000 years ago in India. It’s based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. The main goal is to promote good health, not fight disease.
