In July, 2017 Mai and four other volunteers traveled to Ghana bringing supplies and volunteering in Accra, Akuapem Hills and Cape Coast.  The volunteers worked in the hospital and local clinic shadowing and observing doctors in various departments. In the public health clinics the volunteers were involved in more hands-on work, dressing wounds, carrying out health checks, giving malaria tests, and making presentations on common health issues.
